IELTS writing task 1

In IELTS writing task 1, the writing module are different depending on the versions you choose – the academic or the general training version. The academic version is for candidates who aspire to enroll in universities and for professionals like doctors and nurses. The general training version is basically for people who intend to undertake non- academic training and for immigration purpose.

In both the version you are advised to spend only 20 minutes to complete the task. Time is of the essence for the writing section task 1.

The IELTS General Training Writing will ask you to write a response letter or to request further information. The letter should be a minimum of 150 words in response to some situation or problem. Your letter should cover the task as specified in the task description.

In the academic version writing task 1, you will be assessed on whether you have the potential to produce the formal writing requirements of a higher education establishment such as universities. Test Task 1 is based on some graphic or pictorial information. In this task, you need to write a descriptive report of at least 150 words based on the graphic or pictorial information provided.

For IELTS writing task 1 knowing the format is very important. You will be marked on Task fulfillment, Coherence & Cohesion and Vocabulary and Sentence Structure.  Read the questions clearly and respond to the topic. Improve your writing skills by practicing every day. Strengthen your vocabulary and grammar skills. It is crucial that you produce flawless sentences to impress the examiner. Writing is a skill which can be easily improved by practice.
