IELTS Listening Test
IELTS test is a test for people who intend to study or work where English is the language of communication. The test is designed to measure ability to communicate in English in all the four language skills. In the IELTS test, the candidates must complete four modules. The four modules are – listening, writing, reading and speaking.
The ILETS listening section is divided into four sections and the candidates have 40 minutes to complete the tasks. Each section consists of 10 questions. The first and second sections of the listening test are based on social survival whereas the third and fourth sections are about educational and training orientation in an English-speaking country. In this section, the listening tape lasts for 30 minutes and 10 minutes is for the candidates to transfer their answers to the answer paper.
In the first section of the ILETS listening test candidates will need to listen to a conversation between two people. The tape in this section is about a social conversation, usually dealing with a 'transaction'. There are 10 questions in this section.
The second section is a monologue and is divided into two parts. The monologue given in this section is usually about everyday situations like public announcement, instructions on how to do something or describing about particular situations. The candidates have to answer 10 questions based on what they hear.
The candidates are asked to listen to a conversation involving more than two people in the third section. The conversation is related to education or training. The third section conversation is divided into 2 parts and candidates are given 10 questions to answer.
In the final section of the listening test candidates are asked to listen to a monologue though it may include a second speaker asking questions to encourage the monologue. This section is an academic/training monologue. The monologue is divided into two parts with 10 questions.
