IELTS Integrated Speaking task
The IELTS speaking test section is a 15 minutes test where the examiner directs the interview. The examiner develops the conversation through questions related to the candidate and her opinion.
The IELTS speaking section has three sections. The first section is in the form of an interview where the candidates are asked about their hobbies, interests and reasons for taking up the IELTS exams. They may also be asked on general topics such as clothing, family relationship, computers, internet etc. In the second section of the IELTS integrated speaking task, candidates are given a topic by the examiner. The candidates need to speak about the given topic before an audience which is usually the examiner. In the second section, the candidates are given one minute to prepare on the topic. The third section of the IELTS Integrated Speaking task requires a discussion between the examiner and the candidate on the topic covered in section 2.
The IELTS Integrated speaking task is designed to assess a candidate’s ability to communicate effectively, level of vocabulary and sentence structures, organizations of thoughts and points, and her general fluency. Aspirants need to work on their accent, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, self–confidence and communication skills. A good vocabulary and strong grammar is important for success in this task.
If you are taking the IELTS test remember that while taking the speaking task test, it is very important that you are relaxed. The examiner is trying to assess your English communication capabilities so answer the questions clearly and in complete sentences. Give thoughtful, organized and well developed answers for all the questions. Speak up so that the examiner can hear you properly but not too loud. Try not to speak too fast and maintain eye contact with the examiner. Stay calm, pleasant, and alert throughout the interview.
