IELTS Academic Writing

The IELTS academic writing module consists of two essay tasks. You have 60 minutes to complete two essays and you must complete two essay-tasks to get a score. The writing section is intended to measure your ability to write in a clear, comprehensible, Standard English as generally required in an academic context.

In the first task of IELTS academic writing a chart or a diagram is given to be examined. In this task you will be asked to write a 150-word essay based on the given chart or diagram. You need to summarize the key features of the figures and this involves describing the data accurately. Using appropriate vocabulary and good grammar is a must to score well in this section. Before writing the essay make sure that you fully understand the diagram or tables.

In IELTS academic writing task 2, you will be asked to write another essay. The second essay is different from the first task as the second one is a written response to a statement or question. Here, your essay should contain a minimum of 250 words. You may be asked to present an argument, to justify an opinion or to evaluate evidence. The second task is much tougher as you need to produce a clear, organized written argument with examples to support your points on the given topic. Your essay should have a proper introduction body and a conclusion.

In academic writing section, you will be awarded a score based on your skills to construct a good essay with relevant information, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy.
