Graduate Management Admission Test
The Graduate Management Admission Test, commonly known as the GMAT, is a standardized test which is computer adaptive and it is used to measure the students’ aptitude to succeed academically in graduate business studies. It is used by Business schools as one of the tools to determine the candidates’ competence for admission into graduate business administration programs.
The Graduate Management Admission Test score is not only used in the United States but also in other English –speaking countries. Even though the GMAT Score alone cannot guarantee admission, nevertheless it is one of the major selection criteria for admission into graduate business administration programs. For students planning to enroll in a reputable business schools, scoring well in the test is a must. The Graduate Management Admission Test is divided into three sections: verbal, mathematical, and analytical writing skills.
The Verbal section of The Graduate Management Admission Test consists of 41 multiple choice questions to be completed in 75 minutes. The questions of this section can be broken down into three topics: sentence correction, critical reasoning, and reading comprehension. The verbal section measures the student’s ability to read and comprehend written materials, reason and evaluate arguments, and the ability to conform to standard written English. It examines the students’ skills in verbal reasoning and expression.
The analytical writing skill of The Graduate Management Admission Test is made of two essays .The time limitations for each essay is 30 minutes. In the first section of the essay, the student must analyze an argument. The second section instructs the student to analyze an issue. In this section students need to manage their time wisely as they need to finish one essay in just 30 minutes. The analytical writing skill section is used to assess the students’ communication skills.
