ACT Test

The ACT test, administered to high school students is seen as a gateway to college admission in the United States.  It caters to the ability of the student to handle four major skill areas: English, Mathematics, Science and Reading.  It rates a high schools student’s aptitude for educational development and her capacity to complete college level work within the standards prescribed.  Instituted in 1959 by Lindquist, it is a competitor to the SAT.  The four major colleges and universities in the US have formerly accepted ACT on the ground that it is far more reliable than evaluation based on class, rank, range of curricular and extra curricular activities and GPA.

Middle and high schools throughout the United States have incorporated those learning materials that serve as the foundation to meet ACT standards. Various online and offline centers provide guided training and practice pull-out sheets that give sufficient knowledge and training in approaching the questions that demand a particular style of response.  The writing test in ACT is optional.  It focuses on the ability of the student to plan and write a short essay. 

The manual published by ACT gives the studies conducted, validity in foreseeing freshman GPA, assessing different high schools GPAs and gauging educational development and achievements.  Colleges in the US prefer ACT as it is highly competitive, gives importance to curricula and grading, and is seen as the test of ability of the student irrespective of the educational background. The lack of a common system of learning has witnessed seeping in of practices that are unhealthy to the standards of educations.  ACT negates these differences and serves as a useful tool for grading a student from the national point of view. Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky, and Wyoming have based their learning system on the regulations of ACT.  Students are initiated into ACT learning programs from an early stage. ACT that was popular in the Midwestern and Southern US has now gained reputation in the East and the West US.
